Christian Wittmann

Head of Natural Perils Modelling

Munich Re

Christian Wittmann is heading the Natural Perils Modelling department of Munich Re. He is responsible for Munich Re’s global natural catastrophe models, covering a wide range of perils, geographical regions and different business fields. He is leading a diverse group of geo scientists, insurance professionals and quantitative risk managers.

Christian joined Munich Re in 2006 in quantitative risk management, and assumed various roles over time, based in Munich and London. From 2011, he headed the Property and Casualty Risk Modelling team responsible for the implementation of the internal model for P&C, ahead of the introduction of Solvency II in Europe. From 2016, he was in charge of the Global Oversight department for Munich Re’s P&C reserving, before assuming his current role for natural perils models at the beginning of 2023.

Christian holds a PhD in mathematics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK and of the German Actuarial Association.
