José Miranda leads the Risk Analytics Unit for Vantage Group. He is responsible for managing analysts and data engineers throughout re/insurance and ILS, while driving strategic decision making related to underwriting practice. Prior to becoming the lead of Group Risk Analytics, José was responsible for comprehensive reinsurance risk management for the firm.

José came to Vantage from Hannover Re in March 2022. At Hannover Re, he developed and customized modeling and pricing applications, validated and evaluated third-party catastrophe models, and managed aggregates for the nat cat portfolio underwritten in Bermuda.

José has also held roles in underwriting and analytics at Markel Global Re and Tokio Millennium Re. He started his career at the catastrophe modeler EQECAT, holding various back-office and executive positions.

José holds a Master of Science degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Elizabethtown College. He has obtained Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriting (CPCU) designations from The Institutes, the Certified Catastrophe Risk Management Professional (CCRMP) designation from the Casualty Actuarial Society, and holds Certified Catastrophe Modeler designations from Moody’s Risk Management Solutions and Verisk Extreme Event Solutions.
